Hi my PS2's DVD drive has recently broken, and I was just wondering if anyone knew of a cheap fix. I would be willing to spend up to 50 dollars to fix it if anyone has any ideas please share.

Sorry I said the wrong thing, I think its the laser actually or something, because whenever you put in a CD/DVD it just says can't read disk. Sorry for being unclear in the first post.

Well if its just a dirty lens you can get the cd/dvd disc cleaner kit. If that doesnt fix it then there is something else that has gone wrong, in that case it may not be worth investing the time finding a specific problem to fix, just replace the part. The PS2 is down to $100 used thats going to give you much cheaper parts on ebay so... up to you though.

Have you tried adjusting the laser's height?
Also, if you here a grinding noise when you put a game in you might want to adjust the snake motor's spring.

ok thanks for the rplys I'll try it out. I would get a new PS2, but I have a mod chip in it so that adds cost, and I don't want to get a new one.
