c_mon's Wooden Saturn Laptop...

Post by c_mon » Sun Sep 11, 2011 7:58 am

I think this is the first Saturn Laptop in the world. Correct me if I'm wrong. This has been built as a commission work and I'm already paid for.

Specs:
* CNC-cut case(also available as kit if anyone's interested),
* CNC artwork aplied to the case first time by me,
* 5" Sony PSOne screen w/o led mod,
* Slightly shorter, narrower and thicker than Original Saturn case,
* 3 step-down power regulators used inside,
* EL wire used to look stylish,
* All the case looks very loyal to the original Saturn case,
* Stereo sound with composite video,
* Official Saturn and Sega logos applied as engravings and artwork,
* Cooling fan used to prevent any hot air inside the case(just in case of need;) though original Saturn does not use,
* Original Saturn Power and Reset units used,
* Powers on 9v 4A DC adapter,

I can't even express how awesome that is. Nice work!

Edit: I do hope you intentionally put that particular Saturn logo on there. That's the one for Saturn, as in the GM cars. The Sega Saturn had this logo:

Thanks for your nice words, guys...

jdmlight: I know that the logo I used is not for the Sega Saturn but had to use it. My CNC software did not open the Original Sega Saturn logos I downloaded. So, this one was the nearest to the original. Drawing the logo from scratch is just another piece of pain but if anyone can provide me the Sega Saturn logo vector as .eps format and I can open it on my software, I'll gladly use it with this project...

Excellent work! You should just leave the car company logo...it adds a great level of cheese on top of the jawesome :mrgreen:

I would be very interested in the circuitry necessary to power the Sega Saturn with an external PSU 9v 4A. I have a Sega Saturn with a broken PowerSupply.

Would be very grateful for the help.

The Saturn is great, maybe a touch of varnish or the darker tone would improve even more.

There are some step-down regulators inside and the original PSU was removed. Maybe I can post a picture of the insides here soon. BTW, the case is already varnished as I always do ;)

It has a very light color, not very noticeable in the pictures, or I'm not used to do woodworking. :oops:
