So we're making a portable Nintendo 64. We've got nothing as of now, but are trying to collect parts for when we start. For a screen, I have an old portable DVD player (about 4", maybe) but I'm not sure if I still have it. I have a GBA and GBA SP I'm willing to get rid of, and an old original DS. Are any of these preferable? And, like I've said, I'm not sure if I still have my DVD player. Thanks

A screen will only work if it has video input. Most likely the dvd player doesn't but it may. The others won't work.

A screen has to have a way to get the video from the N64 into it. If the screen does not have a video in it won't work. So you may not be able to use the 4" cvc player screen.

And I guess you may have meant you want to trade off your old systems for something? ??? That part is not so clear.

I am making a portable N64. I was thinking of using a screen from a DVD player. I think I get what you're trying to say, but could I still use the GBA screen?

No. Not only would it not be worth the time vs. money, but the resolution is terrible.

Well what should I use? I'm 14, so my budget is like $20.

The 3.5" car backup screens from ebay are quite popular. $20-$30, I think. Check hailrazer's guide in the reference subforum.

If you want to make a quality portable, you're going to have to put a little money into it.

or this:

We're willing to spend money, we just don't have much.

The first auction finished, and the second has a $20 shipping charge. :|

The problem is, some of these screens are fidgety with the N64. No one knows for sure which screens they are, but they seem to be the ones with buttons on the back.

I've heard these are confirmed to work:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Mini-3-5-TFT-LCD-Car ... 563e56d196
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/3-5-tft-lc ... -15v-49796

They'll take a few weeks to ship from China, though.

You'll also need to get/make your own audio amp and speakers, as none of these screens have one.

I'd prefer eBay, for suggestions. And, the first one is from Hong Kong as well.

Are there any that are not from Hong Kong? The shipping is quite a bit of money.

Have you tried the classified ads, like craigslist , or in second hand stores?
