Dude, I even own a dremel tool, and I know virtually NOTHING about portablization. (is that even a word?) :p

Would these 1.2v 2600mA batteries be AA rechargeable NiMHs? That won't be sufficient to power a PS2 and screen.

They are rechargable NiMHs.

6 * 1.2V = 7.2V
6 * 2600mAh = 15600mAh ~3h of playing

It does work, I tried.

Dremels aren't that popular where I live. In fact I didn't even know what a Dremel was before I got into this.

But to get that playtime you'll need 36 batteries, not 6/12.

You may want to use some other cells, as you will get terrible battery life. Remember that if you wire to increase voltage, you will not increase amperage. If you want 7.2v with those, you will only have a total amperage of 2600mah.

The problem is that using multiple batteries increases either voltage OR amperage, not both. Wire it one way (series), you've got 2.6Ah at 7.2v; wire it the other way (parallel), you get 15.6Ah at 1.2v.

It's a common error.

If you do have it wired up and working, do a test and see how long it lasts on those batteries. You may get roughly a half hour, by my approximation.

I think the actual problem is that you guys do not seem to know what Amperage is (sorry if this sounds offensive).
"2600 mAh" indicates the charge of the battery, not the amperage. The unit of amperage is 1 Ampére (1 A), while the Unit for Charge is 1 Coulomb (1 C).
1 mAh is equivalent to 3.6 Coulomb.

So my PS2 takes 4.5 A, which means that 4500mAh are needed for 1 hour of playtime.
This means if I don't count the screen (which shouldn't be taking more than the PS2), my 15600mAh will be enough for 3 hours.

@eagle5953: I'm familiar with parallel and series wires. And wouldn't batteries get really hot and maybe even explode if wired parallel?

-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-system
This setup would give you 7.2v, 2600mah.

-[2600mah]- |
-[2600mah]- |
-[2600mah]- |
-[2600mah]- | - system
-[2600mah]- |
-[2600mah]- |
This setup would give you 1.2V, 15.6Ah.

So to get 7.2V, 15.6Ah, you'll need this:
-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-|
-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-|
-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-| - system
-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-|
-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-|
-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-[2600mah]-|

But you will need much less capacity. I know the v12 and the v13 slim's draw 2.9A and 2.5A, respectively, so if you have the latest PS2 (v18 perhaps?), it will probably draw even less current.
Plus, the adapters are usually rated a bit above what it actually draws.

Did you just completely ignore what I wrote?
Ah= Charge, NOT amperage. T_T

Yeah, I did. 2600mAh at 1.2V =/= 2600mAh at 7.2v.

You will need 36 batteries if you want to make a 7.2v, 15.6Ah pack.

*sigh*
Hell no. If they batteries had an Output of 2600mA and I wanted to get 7.2V, 2600mA, I would need that many batteries.
But I'm not talking about Amperage, I'm talking about Charge (which is what they store, not what they put out).
So I would always get 15600mAh while it's irrelevant how I wire them.

Okay. Honestly. When you wire batteries in series, it works just like wiring anything else in series, you increase the voltage (not current). When you wire batteries in parallel, it works just like wiring anything else in parallel, you increase the current (not voltage).

http://batteryuniversity.com/index.php/learn/article/serial_and_parallel_battery_configurations

If you don't believe us, hook up your batteries in series, then hook up your portable to it. Measure the current draw with a multimeter (or use the approximations from us), use a stopwatch to record the runtime, and you can figure out the mAH pretty easily. Current draw will be something around 2.5-3 amps, and it will run for about an hour, which puts it pretty close to 2600mAH.

Assuming, of course, that AA batteries can handle the load of a PS2 and screen...

...I was speaking English, wasn't I?
I know how parallel and series wiring works, but for the f*cking last time:
2600 mAh indicates the batteries' CHARGE, not the amperage/current/whatever you call it.
God f*cking damn it.
