if you like historical stuff check out books by harry turtledove, eric flint and david nylund. there is a series of books based during an alternative version of the 30 years war starting with 1632, then 1633 and a few others that are a really cool read.

If you like mystery/thrillers, you'd probably enjoy the novels by James Grippando. I've read most of them, and they're really engaging. However, it'd be best to read at least the first few novels in order before jumping into the rest; the first few explain some of the recurring characters in detail.
