please make a new thread for this stuff, we dont want two tidal waves of posts on the same thread xD
and @ 64dd emulation please elaborate/links there has been numerous trolls on various forums claiming 64dd emulation only to provide crappy mspaint abominations as proof

Ozone is back, this news is excellent.

I'm very excited to see you might be giving this a shot again, while ambitious the mere concept of a n64 shrunken to such a huge extent is awesome.

Its excellent to hear that the replacement DAC is already working well. At the very least it allows us to use screens with digital RGB with a small change to the circuit.

and finally, 94 x 65mm? That's amazing but until you shrink it to 2 x 2mm I will not be fully impressed. :wink:

Good luck

Maybe true about the height and width but this thing is going to be thin. With everything on the same board, and it's landscape so the buttons are out of the way this will be a very small project.

Hi all,

I've been away for a few days, but it gave me time to decide on where I go from here...

I've come to the conclusion that if I try to get a cart emu and a custom N64 board done at once, I might never finish either of them. So, for the time being, I concentrating on just getting the cart emu built. It should be possible to use it for N64 and SNES cart emulation. Also, other consoles may be added in future (if I could just finalize the damn PCB layout and get the thing made).

So, I want to leave this thread alone for a while (hopefully Kibble will come back soon). For more info on the cart emu, Marshall's design is making some good progress, and my version will use a similar menu system (if Marshall decides to do a public release etc.)...

http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php ... &start=135" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

About the 64DD emulation. I hadn't asked the guy (Kammedo) if he wanted it made public yet, but it looks like he beat me to it months ago anyway...

http://www.yntproject.net/index.php?sub ... 1249140128" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's not a finished emulator yet, but believe me, if anyone is close to emulating the 64DD stuff it's Kammedo (ie. he's NOT a fake troll). One of the few people lucky enough to own a 64DD, but also an Ultra 64 dev board for the SGI, and lots of other Nintendo dev equipment.

There isn't much inside the 64DD - It's mainly the ROM for the OS, and a CPU for controlling the drive. I've done a small amount of work with this type of CPU before (Mistubishi, used in many Denon amps), so I'll e-mail Kammedo now to see if I can be of any help with dumping the code.

So, I'll leave it there for now. I've hijacked poor Kibble's thread for long enough.

If I have any major updates with the cart emu, I'll probably post on Marshall's thread, or make a new thread here (especially if I have a PCB up-and-running).

Thanks,
OzOnE.

64dd emulation is pretty hard. "Cartridge" dumps are pretty near "impossible". F-Zero X Expansion was able to be dumped, because it has to use a regular n64 cartridge in order to work. Its not a complex game for the 64DD. Check 64dd.net for more info.

Right now, I'm after a 64dd. I almost had my hands on one today, but by the time I got money on my paypal, it was gone. Oh well, I got Doshin The Giant for 64DD for $18.

YOU ARE THE GREATEST HACKER / MODDER IN THE WORLD!

The only thing I may suggest, is that your PCB's look 'dull' and not shinny as other I have seen.

IE: The copper traces / pads should 'shine' and the PCB should be green.

Are you sure you are cleaning the board correctly to desolve all the Copper?

I dunno. I remember watching a Video about it on YouTube...

I mean, eventually - I was going to get into re-making the PCB's of a Playstation 1 and or SEGA Megadrive 2. Something simple at first, as it would be such a great learning experience to do and improve skill in electronics.

I found his youtube account and sent him a message, but he's just ignoring it or something. I can tell he has logged in since I sent the message.

Yea I already saw his last login on the Ben Heck Forums...

Maybe he is just sick of the Mod or something and is taking a break...

Just have to wait and see what he comes back with!

When making PCB's part way through the process the copper tracks shine, but then you take off that shine so you can actually solder to the tracks. The shine on the tracks is like a protective coat you have to remove before you can work with it.

At least that's my view of it. I could be wrong though

When is he returning?

At least he should post "I'm Busy - will return soon", or something so at least we know...

Somehow I don't think spam PM'ing him will make him want to come back to the community.. He'll come back when he's ready, people do have real lives too you know. Hobbies sometimes need to take the backseat for a while, they don't usually pay the bills. I'm sure we'll see him again, and when that day comes I'll be happy :P
