I have finished my first XBOX 360 laptop. I haven't kept track of how much time was invested. Maybe 200 hours? Anyway, I'm glad it's done. Features include:
Dell 15in 1024 x 768 monitor
Falcon motherboard
60GB hard drive
built-in Wi-fi
.080 aluminum base tig welded to 2in angle 1/8in thick
1/8in polystyrene sides and top
.080 polystyrene vacuum-formed monitor back
2W stereo amplifier with headphone jack, digital volume control, and built-in speakers
mcmaster carr friction hinges
2 user USB ports
2 memory card slots
accessible HDMI, video, and networking ports (under lid)
nice cooling system with folded down CPU heatsink, heatpipe GPU heatsink, and 5 cooling fans
white LED lighting

Here's a video of it in action, along with some in-progress photos

Looks great, I'm also pretty sure that that's a good deal smaller than any of the others that have been made. Good Job.

Love it. While it does have a smaller screen, that does mean it's smaller over all.

The finished dimensions are 13 1/2 x 11 x 4 1/4 inches. The XBOX portion is 2 1/4 inches thick, and the monitor is 1 1/2 inch thick with about 1/2 inch gap when closed.

It's thicker than most laptops I've seen, but the x y dimensions are smaller.

Thanks for the compliments :D

For the Wi-fi antenna I used on from a PS3. It plugs in and has a long cord. I placed it near the front right corner and it gets a great signal.

By George you've solved it! The cure for the Red Rings. Simply remove the LEDs and you're golden! Just kidding that would be funny though.

The "ring of light" may be gone, but I replaced it with the "5 holes of light." It's on the left side of the lid. That was pretty much the only place it fit. Then I removed the orientation sensor and jumpered the connection so the XBOX thinks it's vertical (so the top left LED is player one.) Plus, no more rattle.
I know it's not a new system, but it has never had RROD. When my first 360 got it I swore "never again." This one I got new and immediately took it apart and put in talismoon fans and heatpipe heatsinks for both sides, with arctic silver. Plus, it has factory installed epoxy on the chips, if that even works.
I believe I made it reliable. I play tested it for 2 hours and felt the heatsinks afterward. They were warm, but not hot.

Didn't catch that ROL. Nice.

I like the radioshack buttons, too.

This is awsome. It is good to see other people attempting this. Yes it is hard but the reward is great.

I thought it would be a good idea to provide cooling for the monitor. Rather than drilling hundreds of holes, I installed a fan that draws air out. I thought that would work better then vent holes anyway.

Looks pretty sweet. The vacuum formed back turned out really nice. Good luck on the sale.
