Exactly, that's why. Like with everything, you get what you pay for.

Would there be a lot of interference from a 1.2ghz transmitter/receiver with an Xbox 360 controller?

No. I used one in mine. You will get the occasional flicker of the screen or something but nothing major at all. Again, it will also depend on what other wireless appliances etc you have nearby. But I didn't have many issues and my house is a wireless minefield.

He references what looks like a model number earlier in the discussion.

hi everybody,

has anybody set the PS3 up to work in on another TV in their house.
i to have a wife and two kids, and getting access to the TV is very difficult.
but i can use the upstairs TV.
is there any AV transmitters that would do the job?
or any other suggestions other than running a long HDMI cable through the house, and buying another PS3. :)

cheers
Andy

You can apply the same concept here.... just get one of the transmitter things.

This wireless transmitter will get you AV signals at a range of 260 feet.

So really, your only limitation would be the controller distance. If the other TV is too far from the console, you will get spotty controller performance. With a PS3 the controller is bluetooth, so you should be able to go at least 30 feet. I have read that the PS3 controllers should work up to 65 feet. However, I would assume this being with no walls/floors in between, the more walls/floors you have will reduce the distance you can go.

I know I can go pretty far with my Xbox 360 controller, but definitely not 65 feet. I can get from my main living room, through my dining room and kitchen and out the back door before the signal drops off. I can pretty much go to any room on my main floor with no issue. I have not tried it from directly above or below however, so I do not know how it would react to a floor/ceiling. I also have an open floor plan, so at most I am usually only around a corner from the system, one room has a door and wall in between the console and the controller still works fine, but it is the closest room to the console.

I can see it now... A pair of those wireless Atari 2600 joysticks, an RF amplifier, a Sony Watchman, FCC officials busting down the door because of the unlicensed Channel 3 that just started up...

Good job, techknott! You're making consoles portable 10 years ahead of the rest of us! ;)
