I just recently soldered a lot of cables onto my psone mobo, and couldn't get the disk drive ribbon cable off. So, I did it with the drive on. The problem is that now, when the ps1 turns on, the music is a bit distorted and the drive won't work properly(infrared light won't turn on or move). Are there any reasons for this(ribbon cable broken, squished disk drive(because I did press on it a bit)?

Did you try pushing down on the cable? Are there any breaks in the cable?

it doesn't look like it, and I moved around the drive to different positions, where it looked like it spun up a bit more than normal, but I can't be too sure about it.

I had this problem, but when i had a closer look, i found out that the metal plate(the one that the board sits on when its in its orgional case) is actualy linking up the earth points on the board.

but just remember it would probably be better to link these earth points together by wiring them so they are all touching. i fried 2 boards because the metal plate sliped and shorted somthing out.

hope you get all that haha its rather hard to explain.

Argh, I hate ribbon cable. Use solid core wire.

It could be anything. Most definitely screwed for sure.

There goes another Sony PS down the drain...

Wait. This is from Aug 25th 2009. BringMeTheLight you fool
