Question: When that says L and R audio, does that mean we can connect to those contacts for the output for the screen?

It's possible, but it most likely needs to go through the audio processor first, so connecting the cartridge slot to the chip first then go to the screen from the board normally.

In that case, it would be labeled to its pin number on whatever chip it would go to.

The audio signals coming from the cart slot will likely need to be fed into a pre-amp of some kind before output, there is one on the board, chip U2 'AMP-NUS'
I may have to trim this part of the board in my portable however, so i made my own amp and took the signals straight from the cart slot.

The output circuitry is something that changed a lot between the different n64 revisions, on my "1996 CPU-03" the audio signals are filtered through R21, C30 and R17, C29 before going to the 'AMP-NUS' so there is no definitive pin number, i did trace them and took a quick pic for anyone who needs it.

(excuse the mobile phone picture, it's just to give a rough idea where the points are.)

Interesting, are you sure your soldering is accurate? have you got it working using a different pinout?

I only say this because i am confident my pinout is 100% correct and that it will work for all n64s.

Well, I knw for a fact the my soldering was accurate, but if you have different year revision boards then compare them. Like I said, I'll post our findings later, I'm actually working on tracing everything right now. Most of it is right though.

A Revision 4 N64 has 14 chips, and a Revision 8 board has only 9. (counting the voltage regulators)
Video comes off of Capacitor 15 on a revision 4 board, and C16 on a revision 8 mobo.
Left audio comes off of Capacitor 25 on a revision 4 board, and same on a revision 8 mobo.
Right audio comes off of Capacitor 26 on a revision 4 board, and same on a revision 8 mobo.
The 3.3v line can go directly into pin 6 and the 12v line can go into 7. I haven’t tested this yet, but it looks like SifuF did it.

I got JJhammerstein to post this for me, and I'm not trying to undercut the mods or anything. I'm pretty sure you guys are watching my IP address, I won't try any funny buisiness. Daftmike, I'm not trying to undercut you either, I am the respected member SS has been talking to. I just think it must be because your n64 is PAL or something. For the most parts our diagrams are the same. I made a diagram a while back, I could post the whole thing, but it's almost exactly the same as what's on here.

Since we only disagree on three pins it must just be down to the differences between hardware revisions.

As it turns out i don't have a board younger than a NUS-CPU-03 so I can't comment on your changes other than to say that my original pinout is correct at least for the NTSC CPU-03 and PAL CPU(P)-01 boards.

It looks like a different pinout is needed depending on the board revisions, what do you think?
