I was at Wal-Mart yesterday and saw that Mighty Putty stuff there for like $10. Has anyone used the stuff in their case construction? I was thinking about buying it and trying to use it when my case arrives. Is it cheaper than regular type epoxy/bondo? If no one else has used it, I may try it out to see if it's a viable option for future case modding.

It's epoxy putty. Very good stuff, actually. I have some, and I think lovablechevy used it before too. Ten dollars is about the average price for that sort of stuff, so it isn't really cheaper.

Yeah, I was unsure about buying it because TV lies sometimes, but Billy was right on this one. The stuff actually works. I doubt you can do a few of the thing in the ad though.

Hey it's not that great.
It's okay, but sometimes it is really annoying. Also, the final dried stuff would look nasty on a portable. You'd have to get a really good coat of paint to cover it up well. Even then, I don't think paint adheres to it very well.

Paint adheres to it just fine. Spray or brush on.If it looks like crap after you paint its because you didn't sand and smooth it enough not because it doesn't take paint.

Well, I've never bothered painting on it before. Never seen the need, but on a portable I would be concerned.

So if you never tried it why say it doesn't work? Misinformation is a bad thing man.

It's great stuff, I mean, it's just plain ol' epoxy, find it at any hardware store for the past 15+ years.

Epoxy based fillers were designed to be painted. It more or less defeats the whole purpose of a filler for your bodywork or woodwork if you've jut got to leave it as it is without painting it to match. Mighty putty is a nice brand. I've been very satisfied with it the few times I've used it. It mixes well and sands beautifully. It takes paint very nicely. No complaints at all with it.
