DreamTrooper .My next portable started. FINISHED :) Youtube

Post by hailrazer » Wed Sep 17, 2008 4:00 pm

Well I decided to try my hand at another Lazer Doodle mod. This time I am going for a Dreamcast.

My list of parts :

Dreamcast : Obtained
Lazer Doodle : Obtained
Quantam Controller : Obtained
Pico 120 watt Psu : Obtained
12v Batteries : Obtained (5000maH Ni-Mh with 3 hour quick charger)

My plan is to mod the Lazer Doodle. But this time the joystick and buttons will be in the middle and as close to the edges as possible for more comfortable playing. I was also thinking about molding a VMU into the spot where it says "Lazer Doodle".

I am going to have to shrink down the size by getting rid of the Gd-Rom connector and modem connector.

I also want about 3 hours playtime so I am probably going to spend a fortune for a decent battery.

Anything I should be aware of or any tips? :)

*Edit*

Finished :)

Here's the finished pics

I added a fan in the back as you can see and put slots in it like the original Dreamcast has.

I put the orange Led shining down on the Dreamcast Logo. You like ? :)

I'm sorry but any time you write "Lazer Doodle" I think back to your previous avatar of Homer and I hear his giggle. It totally wipes away anything I was just reading.

Looking forward to your project - you already have the perfect name picked out. Let me guess what color it's going to be :D

As awesome as the DARTH 64 was, I have total confidence this system will rock even harder.

This would be so sweet, My cousin has a 12,000 game disk and thought when I played it "This would be awesome if I could play it anywhere" so we need a new Dreamcast portable

Haha LOB said "doodle".

Well I got the case cut out and the screen abs cemented in. I put it up higher than my last one so I have more room for the joystick/d-pad/buttons higher up.

Oh and I'm thinking about painting this one white.... It fits the Dreamcast theme better I think.

Come over to the light side of the force. :)

And I have the back started.

I used a Ps1 lid for my back cover. I'll probably use another one to cover it.

Now I have a lot of Plastic Filler Epoxying to do :)

Nice color white, nicely goes with the black one-Not totally opposite, but will look good next together.

Yea that's what I was hoping for. Light side , Dark side. Good vs Evil and all that :)

Oh and I have my battery on the way. It's a 12v Ni-mh 5000maH with 3 hour quick charger. Hopefully I can get around 2 - 2 1/2 hours out of it.

And I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do for the rear triggers. I need them higher than they were on the Darth64 since I am moving the joystick and buttons higher. But I am running out of room.

I was thinking of using momentary push buttons on the sides of the back. These :

Or round ones like these:

Ideas ? )

I own 3-5 of both
I like/liked the red one better on my Atarip-BEcause there was only one and looked nice
The black ones would look good when using more then 1, and they are easier to push

Hate the red buttons imo. egh. Lots of portablizers here love'm but I can't stand them. Makes me think of the ugly side of frankencasing.
