Sega Dreamcast Handheld Project [Brainstorming Stage]

Post by dragonhead » Sun Aug 31, 2008 6:45 pm

well, while im waiting for some funding for my Gen.Com project, i thought i'd start planning my next portable: A Sega Dreamcast!

ive been brainstorming and such for a few days now and came up with a few concept sketches. consequently each smaller than the last.

Below are the mockups i came up with. Each picture is to scale with real parts. I have also provided pictures that show how the Dreamcast mainboard fit inside each case. Take note, what you will see is the original size of the borad, but it can be trimmed up to about 3/16" on all sides

THE MOCKUPS

At first, i thought about using the XBOX "Duke" controller as the basis for the case. i came up with this quick mockup.

it didnt really grow on me, so i moved on to this next one. its basically a widened dreamcast controller.

i liked that design, but thought i could make it smaller still. so i came up with this all-custom design. this is about as small as i could make it without being just a boring box!

and heres all 3 in comparison to each other:

what do you all think?

The third would be difficult to make, but it definitely looks the best!
