This may seem newbish but, why can't one use the original SNES (as opposed to the miniSNES)?
Is it that Ben is not recomending it because it has an updated motherboard?
I say this because I'd rather use my own system instead and get the PSOne Screen

disregard the horrible paintjob etc, ive rebuilt this case to much better than pictured, need to get another snes to gut for it! lol

The label on the bottom of the SNES has an imprinted 4 digit number. The first two digits are the year it was produced. The second two I don't know, maybe batch number or production week. Of the two SNES's I have, the one made in '91 does have an APU, the one made in '93 does not.Billybb347 wrote:Thanks for all the help. How do I find out if it has a seperate APU?
As far as I know, ONLY SNES mobos from 1991 have that bulky APU unit sticking off the board. After that, technology improved and they reduced the size to just one or two DIP chips.
BTW, my second SNESp really demonstrates how well you can make a portable look with an older motherboard. Take a look at the thread:http://benheck.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php? ... ight=snesp
Hope that helps.

If all else fails, take it apart!

Mine doesn't have a stamped number on it.rjo wrote:The label on the bottom of the SNES has an imprinted 4 digit number. The first two digits are the year it was produced. And their doesn't seem to be any production dates.
Oh well, I have been perusing around the fourms and I think that I will not gouge my SNES but will use the FCTwin for my portable (Does it use normal Phillips screwdrivers to open?). I'll post details on that in another thread.
