Ok, I have a new Idea. Instead of using a regular computer or cabinet, I will
use a Internet-cafe type pc. Why? It already has a built in track ball and coin mechanism, and I got it for free :D . I will start working on this sometime soon, pics later. I have no controls as-of yet, and the hard part will be taking out the built in key board. I also plan to make one with a real arcade cab in the future.

Or should I save the idea for this and make a NES/SNES cabinet? let me know your opinions! thanks

Where'd you get one of those!!??

my dads work. he works at an athletic club and has had it for 2 years in there closet with no use.

what do you think?
now, sadly, ive never actually played doom II, final, or ultimate. I plan on picking up doom collection soon, but in the latter versions of the game do you need any buttons not listed :?:

and BTW sorry about the crappy microsoft paint job. the jump button is almost covered by the word.

I also forgot to add buttons to change your weapon. basically, under the start/fire/jump buttons, there are individual buttons to change your weapons.

These are the moments that make me cry. Guys, Doom doesn't need a mouse, you just move with arrow keys, shoot with ctrl, hold alt to strafe, press space to open doors, hold shift to run, and 1-9 are guns. Dude, no need for a mouse. You could go old school, have nine buttons on the panel below the control panel/ parallel to the back board, with ESC and such on it....just a thought.... ...or just wire two buttons for weapon select left/right...another thought :P . Seriously, this should be awfully easy...kinda. Just edit the system.ini, to automatically boot into the DOOM selctor program...and yea.

If you make a doom cabinet, I really must suggest that you check out Zdoom or Jdoom. They are reworked versions of the Doom engine that still run with the original WADs. They add a bunch of stuff like full range mouse look, jumping, floors above floors (For custom maps that use it). Your could also use Zdaemon if you wanted it to be a networked doom cab. This is especially true since you want to use an e-cafe PC.

Did anyone else think of Gross Point Blank when they saw this thread?

Since you are only playing Doom, and as an effect can't aim on the X-axis, wouldn't a Spinner that doesn't stop be a better idea? That would be much better than a trackball or joystick in terms of speed and your ability to react with it.
