Learn how to power the N64.

First of all, you are going to need one of these:
PT78HT233 DC/DC Converter
You can get free samples of these from TI Instruments. Get the PT78HT233.
You can get either the Horizontal, Vertical, or surface mount version. Pick which suits you.

After that you will need to get two extra components that can be bought from almost any electronic component store. You a 100uf electrolytic capacitor as well as an inductor of any relatively small uH value.

Next, you will need a 7.2-9 battery that can cope with a heavy current draw (anything bigger than AAs will work). The diagram below shows how to hook it up.

Make sure you match the negative stripe on the capacitor to the ground pin of the regulator.

Don't you need the diode and inductor as well?

why is that green resitor in the diagram? it should be an inductor.

edit by marshall: yes, it's an inductor, not a resistor. :P

That green "resistor" actually is an inductor.

Hey Fanboy: did you get permission from Skyone? :P

Fanboy, I hate to tell you, but that right there is not allowed, uploading my picture, even after putting a disclaimer... I'm asking you to take it down.

EDIT: Can a mod take it down?

Thanks for the noticing iam7805.

Fanboy didn't post the picture, I did. But since skyone is so protective of his image, I made my own picture and put it up there now.
I don't care what anyone does with this new image, I don't think there should be a reason why people can't share it.

Marshall, that's not fair. Making me look like the bad guy, me not wanting to have people copy my image. It would've been fine linking to my site, or the page furthermore. But I expected more, especially out of you...

I apologize, I wasn't thinking when I put it up. I hope you don't take offense to my image I put up? :P
If so, can we keep this thread from turning into a flamefest (it's supposed to be informative, anyway.)

well, go get back to the technical part...you want to make sure that your inductor can handle the current that the N64 needs. The green "resistor-like" inductor is an RF choke, and can usually only handle 100mA or less. If you try to put 1 amp through it to run your N64, you're going to run into problems. Just a reminder

This thread is pretty outdated, we had problems with this particular device. Perhaps it should be locked?
