How to make your PSone screen even smaller.....

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

How to make your PSone screen even smaller.....

Post by Gamelver »

Lately, while working on my latest portable, a SNESp, I've been doing a lot of tracing on my PSone screen.....why? so that I can cut off the bottom parts and wire straight to the pins/components they lead to :)!!!!! you see, the bottom part of the LCD board (where the av/power inputs, volume+brightness switches, and speaker inputs are) is in the way of where my SNES controller needs to go (and trust me, it NEEDS to go there...). so, I decided to trace each input (and each resistor/capacitor) that the screen needs to function to its appropriate spot on the board. by doing this, I can successfully remove the entire bottom part of the board, wire up power+av+volume/brightness switches+audio, and still have space for my controller :). as soon as I actually wire it up and test it, I'll make some diagrams and post 'em up :)...
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

I'll show you in a couple hours :)....(I've got to go to my brother's soccer game now)....I'd say only about half an inch, but when you take off the top too, a little less than an inch :)....and for this SNESp, every 1/1000000 of an inch off is good :P...

So you're actually cutting off the 12pin and 10 pin connectors on the bottom of the screen? Also, I'm hoping you also are cutting off the top area where the transformer is :)

Cool! I would really like to see how you did it, as this could really help me with my N64P dilema (is there 2 m's?)

finally, here's one of the smaller one on top of the larger one:

I still have to shave off a bit but that's the basic size of it :)....tomorrow I'll draw some diagrams of what I plan to wire to ;)...

yeah, and I've already started wiring to it, so tomorrow I should be able to test it :)....I just need a few resistors so that I can get the volume/brightness switches to be able to do more than just go up ;).....you see, instead of having two different spots for the plus and minus parts of the volume/brighntess switches, there's only 1 spot on the board that you have to solder to for volume and one for brightness. you simply wire up a switch directly to each spot and another switch to each spot with a 5.6ohm resistor in front :). if all of this is confuses, then don't worry, I'll post up some diagrams soon ;).

The pics in post 7 are as close as you are going to get! I asked last week.
