Hey guys, I just picked up a Kindle and I'm looking for some books. Recommendations?

Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child. Doesn't matter which one - they're all awesome. Killing Floor was the first one, but it really doesn't matter which order you read them in since he's a badass ex-military cop / drifter who wanders from town to town and almost every story is a stand-alone.

Also, I REALLY WANT the new Kindle. It's almost impulse buy territory, but I'm holding out for Christmas... just in case.

It's definitely worth it.

It's a Kindle. I thought Hitchhiker's Guide was a requirement at time of purchase.

Edit: It's also only $6.29. How could you resist that?

I generally read history books. I don't think I've read almost any Sci-Fi at all. Give me a good starting point.

The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

You can get it from Gutenberg.org

They also have a whole bunch of other books as well, all free, and legal.

start with some classics. frank herberts dune series, anything by Robert Heinlein, Issac Asimov, Iain M. Banks, Micheal Crichton, margrette weiss and tracy hickman (death gate cycle books are good) obviously steven king and dean koonts (dark tower series by king, and odd thomas books by koontz) i could keep going even! right now i'm on the third book in a series by garth nix (Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen are the 3) i'll list more later

Agreed on the bit about Garth Nix

Garth Nix also wrote a series called Keys To The Kingdom, and another series called The Seventh Tower
