ps2 slim on a 7.4 v battery

No, it's not. Sorry. I can't remember what the lowest voltage is that you can use, but the 7.4v battery just isn't enough, especially when the voltage drops as the battery drains. I think we'd have a lot more PS2p's on here if you could.

Your best bet is to get an 8.5v or higher battery and use a 7808 regulator for the screen. hope that helps

Problem is i want to use li-po batteries, so i guess im going to have to get a 11.1 v battery and notch it down. Didn't somebody use two 7805 regulators in series?

7805 regs will take the voltage down to 5v. so yes you could use an 11.1v battery directly for the PS2 and if you were planning on using a PSOne screen, then you could use one 7808 regulator for it.

That's amazing. I was thinking about that thread while answering your question, but somehow missed them talking about being able to get 8v from a 7805. I suppose if you already have the extra resistors, then you can do it. It just seems like extra work to do it that way.

If you're able, do both and see which one is more efficient. Having a 7805 with extra resistors and such may burn off more energy and equal shorter battery life.

isnt there a way to get free samples of those regulators? and where can i look to find what kind of current draw they have?

7805's? I think the only free way to get those is from discarded electronics.

Skyone suggested a PTN78020 from TI. Those things you could get in free samples and they're super efficient because they're a switching regulator. It's beyond me what you need to hook up to it to get the voltage you want though.

PTN78020s are beasts, perfect for the application.

Parts

• PTN78020
• 6kΩ Resistor
• 330uF Electrolytic Capacitor
• 2.2uF Ceramic Capacitor

RSET is the 6kΩ resistor. Make sure the polarity is correct on CO.

For PTN78020W output voltages lower than 10 V, the minimum input voltage is (VO + 2 V ) or 7 V, whichever is higher.

If your output voltage is 8v (which it is, with the 6kΩ resistor), then the input must be at least 10v.

Don't skimp out an use a linear regulator like the 78xx series, they can't handle the PSTwo's draw. Definitely purchase/sample one of these. Ask if you need any more help.

the cheapest I usually see them for on craigslist is 50. I got one for that much but the disk drive clicks while it spins so I guess it's hit or miss. I would advise getting one that works. Chances are you'll spend more trying to cut corners. that's my crappy luck though.
