Gamecube Advance SP - Update
Moderator:Moderators
So i came up with this name, with the help of my brother, because of the system's shape and resemblance the Gameboy Advance SP
The screen in there right now is a 7" but i'm replacing it with the PSone screen.
The buttons are on the sides(duh) and there will be spots beside the screen where the buttons will go when closed
I still need batteries so if you know any good ones or could tell me which ones you used in your GCp that would be awesome
I have already bought a PSone screen already and will be getting it soon
Dimensions: 20.5 x 16 x 5(cm)
Open: This is how it got its name
Comparison: Silver GC has the Gameboy player attached
Disassembled Gamecube: REV A mobo
NOTE: this is meant to be portable not handheld, as this is my first attempt at a portable
comments and crits are welcome

Where the old DD was, but moved a little to make space for the buttons.
There is a little flip open lid to put the usual DVD
I also finished cutting the holes for the buttons

Re: Gamecube Advance SP - GCp Worklog-PICS!
are you going to be making the bottom of the case lower, or does the dd fit in there? just doesn't look deep enough.
Re: Gamecube Advance SP - GCp Worklog-PICS!
:lol:Funny you mentioned that. I realized today that i cant relocate the DD mobo so what i'm going to do is extend the (black) bottom section with a 1cm plastic strip all the way around the edge
This will provide extra room for the L/R triggers and the DDmobo. I thought of cutting the heatsink a little instead of extending it but i don't want to risk the system over heating.
But the actual DD fits in nicely(if extra plastic is trimmed) but it sorta needs the mobo as well.

Sorry to double post but im using my psp to do this.
Anyway, does anyone know if you can relocate the memory card slot?

Re: Gamecube Advance SP - GCp Worklog-PICS!
you can relocate the memcard slot, don't know if there are any shortcuts, but just unsolder them and extend the points using wire. also you can relocate the motherboard of the dd , I am going to keep min above the heatsink purely so i don't have to resolder all the tiny points on the mainboard and dd boardZeflis wrote: Anyway, does anyone know if you can relocate the memory card slot?

That was my thought too. I really don't want to deal with all those super tiny pins.
What is the best way to take off the memory card slot while keeping the pins where they should be?

Re: Gamecube Advance SP - GCp Worklog-PICS!
Okay, so i'm not going to relocate the memory card slot. Instead it's going to be pointing out the back.
Today I put the R/L triggers from the Gamestop controller on the bottom and they work nicely.
Also I trimmed the ground side sections off the mobo to save space.
Also also I made this little logo for this project
Right now i'm waiting for my screen to arrive and am working out a deal for some 7.4v 6400mah li-po batteries
Now for some questions:
1) For these batteries, will I need to add 2or3 AA's to get the voltage up to 12v?
2) When taking off the digital av out port, I've heard some people mention that it could cause problems. What is the best way to take it off?
I'll post some more pics very soon

Re: Gamecube Advance SP - GCp Worklog-PICS!
I used the dangerous/stupid way of removing the av ports, as well as my memory card slot which is the candle method, I don't suggest this, though it does work, just get yourself a desoldering pump.Zeflis wrote:

Edit: also the gamecube can run off of 7.4v i do believe I still need to source some batteries

To run a GC off of 7.4V:

Re: Gamecube Advance SP - GCp Worklog-PICS!
Yeah i've seen that before and it looks very useful but i think i would just end up having a few AA's combined with the 7.4v. Those parts are ones that i would have to order from digikey, and seeing as i live in Canada, shipping can get a little pricy. I would like to keep within my budget unless absolutely necessary.
Re: Gamecube Advance SP - GCp Worklog-PICS!
You can order those parts from other than digikey, I'm sure...
Adding a few AA's won't work. The batteries will drain too quickly. (And it's a good idea to never mix batteries of different capacities, let alone voltages.)

Re: Gamecube Advance SP - GCp Worklog-PICS!
ok, well that's fine. T he person who i was going to buy the batteries from backed out anyway. So the search for batteries continues!
And thanks for that tip, will probably come in handy someday
