Don't worry, I still have to break 10 more motherboards before I can finish this portable.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Theres a lot of reasons I shouldn't show this worklog but I'm incredibly bored since Im waiting on supplies to finish putting my Ccube together. I never do things in order, you guys know that.

Disclaimer: I get busy, I get distracted, and I usually think of a better smaller case design. Thus, I am not guaranteeing in any way that this will ever get done. It probably won't.

Now then, I scraped my old case design because i thought of a better smaller case design and here we go:

Main housing will be less than 1.5" thick, more on that upon presentation. Disc drive will externally stick out the back of the case. That extrusion sticks out an inch. So most of the case is thin with the disc drive in the middle being the thick part.

I will never take this outside, so batteries is a waste of time, space, and money for me.
Its gonna have batteries. 4 cells, over 2 hours battery life. heh :P

Credits to Chris Downing (cndowning) for the awesome case :awesome:
Credits to Sifuf for the case concept.
Credits to Ashen for wiikey fusion

Why not, you can get a Xeno for around $15 and it's easy as heck to install.

Update: I am in the case-making stage of this portable. After the case is made, things should go pretty smoothly - guts don't scare me anymore.

I am waiting on the ABS cement to form in my sealed jar. I don't want this to necessarily be a worklog because those can be very long and boring. So this will be my last update until I have something cool to show you guys.

Tchay's Second Gamecube Portable: The Gamecube Envision(WIP)

Post by Tchay » Sat Oct 16, 2010 7:32 pm

Progress has begun!

Here are some pictures of placement and concept designs. Concept can take months to finalize...hopefully this is the final layout.

Top view. You can see the 5" LCD module on left and the controller board on the right side. Also present are 3 Sunon fans (.75"x.75"x.3125"). 2 speakers not exceeding width of case half. DD laser for placement. Lower right area is for the R-trigger. TRIVIA: what is written on my notebook? And what class is it for???
Image

Most of the DD will be external from main unit. The laser won't extrude in this much.
Image

Motherboard, Daughterboard, and controller board. All slimmed to their approximate size for the actual portable.
Image

I really don't want to use 4 fans....just seems like a bit much. The plan is to have one fan suck in air, and the other two blow out the hot air. I'm curious if the wind generated by the DD spinning will help at all. It did in the Ccube...
Image

Normally I like to hide this stuff, but I figure its useful to other portablizers. And hopefully entertaining to some degree

OH, forgot to mention my battery placement...oh well I'll just show that in another update.

im gonna have to pick up a gamecube and have a go at trying to fit a slimmer laser unit to it. that is the ONLY thing keeping ultra-tiny GC handhelds from existing it seems....
