im beginning work on a PlayStation 2 portable of my own, however i am using the lazer doodle design invented by hailrazer. i am only in the early stages of this project, but i think it should turn out well. the only ps2 mobo version that will fit into the casing is the 79001, so thats what im using. i will be using a zenith ps2 screen (same innards as the psone screen i know, but it has flat casing, rather than round, not to mention its easier to find and much cheaper), and just a regular dualshock 2 controller. i hope to start posting pics when i can secure a decent camera, but until then, if anyone has any suggestions based on the info here, i'd love to hear them!!

Good luck I wish people wouldn't steal hailraiser's lazerdoodle idea though...

Re: PS2P hailrazer style
thanks, although, i dont really consider this to be a plagiarism, i consider it to be a tribute. besides its not like he copyrighted it, and look at bacteria, and even benheck himself, they sell instructions and kits for their systems. but seriously i take no credit for the case design, it all goes to hailrazer!!!!

Re: PS2P hailrazer style
I have made a little progress as far as constructing the case for the PS2P. obviously it needs more work, but i thought i'd try and upload as many pics as i could along the way
any thoughts/ suggestions, would be much appreciated!!

Re: PS2P hailrazer style
im thinkin of using either this battery:
http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?P ... rodID=2741" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
this battery:
http://www.batterymart.com/p-universal- ... ttery.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
or this battery
http://www.battery-plaza.ca/external-dv ... attery.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
the only thing im really in the dark about is how to regulate the voltage to both devices inside the portable (the ps2 and the screen) so that they dont get to much power. they all look like they're capable of outputting the 8.5 that the ps2 needs (all the info is on the power supply for the ps2) but i could use a little feedback from people who know more than me.
also, if anyone knows of a better battery, possibly even the one that benheck used when he built his portable ps2, dont hesitate to post a link!!!

Re: PS2P hailrazer style
That kind of battery pack will work as long as it's small enough. I like the middle one.

Re: PS2P hailrazer style
good news, i was able to locate the same battery Ben Heck used for his PS2P on eBay. and if i can convince them to ship with the postal system, rather than UPS, we will be in business!!

Ah good find there, spent many an hour searching for that ellusive battery myself
Re: PS2P hailrazer style
Why do you want them to ship via the postal system? Shipping is free!
Anyway, nice find!

Re: PS2P hailrazer style
it does seem rather absurd on first glance, but i live in Canada, where as the battery is coming from America. this is the dilemma, because UPS always charges a butt load in what it calls "COD brokerage fees" for getting it across the border, which means that you have to be there when they deliver it, and pay them for it. you only get 3 chances to get it from them, or they send it back, and they come any time between 8 and 6. its just a giant hassle, and i'd rather pay an extra 5 bux for shipping, than go through the head ache of dealing with UPS again.
*sigh*
to sum it up, its just how i prefer to do business, lol

Re: PS2P hailrazer style
hey again, just a little update; i got my battery today, and despite my request to have it shipped USPS, it was shipped UPS, costing me an extra 25 bux on delivery (GAHHH). but now i have it, and i am confident it will be perfect for my project!!

Re: PS2P hailrazer style
its approximately 6"x3.5"x1", and it holds 5400 mAh, and outputs 9v
After getting it opened up (which BTW was exceedingly difficult, and at one point i thought i'd bricked the thing) i realized that its gonna take a ,lot of finagling to get it to fit inside my portable, but, that's just part of the fun!!!
