Happy Birthday Dreamcast (13th Anniversary bump)

Post by wallydawg » Sat Sep 09, 2006 1:36 pm

Released September 9, 1999 here in North America. So far I've spend the day playing Chu Chu Rocket, Bomberman Online, Giga Wing and Jet Grind Radio. Too bad I have to work today or I'd play it straight through the day. 8)

I remember when I got my Dreamcast. I got the Sports System (2k bundle pack) on clearance for $50. The system in about mid-death when I got it, so I was able to snag up a lot of games from the store on the cheap. I also found one of these a couple of years back in someone's garbage:

So, what are you guy's dreamcast plans for today, if any? What's your favorite game, and have any interesting Dreamcast Related stories?

I want one of those displays :( They own. My DC has only one real controller, a Fishing controller, and about 4 VMUs
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

It's awfully heavy. It took three of us to load it into my friends trunk.

RIP Dreamcast I shall honor you demise by playing the two I own at once!
Mwhahahahahahaha!

I just wish there was like a REtro company...

You know a company that still publishes games for older systems...too bad there ain't no money in it...

If the gaming industry crashes again that may be the thing tht has to be done for us to get a gaming fix...

Theres actually a new Dreamcast game coming out (if it's not out already) called Under Defeat. $80 US at Play-Asia, but it looks worth it to me:

Under Defeat. Check out the screen shots!

I don't own one, but I might get one just to play Soul Calibur... The system dindn't appeal to me back when it was released. I don't know exactly why though.

As my tradition, I have gotten Chuck Norris to wish the Dreamcast a happy birthday!

The Dreamcast still stands as the only gaming system I bought on day one. I remember I went to Best Buy and bought the system, second controller, 2 VMUs, Soul Calibur (Ahhh... Soul Calibur 8) ), and the Sonic game.

It was a great day, except for the fact that the Sonic game I got was one of the ones that didn't work from the initial pressing. I returned it the next day and that one didn't work either. The next day, same result. Finally, I decided to wait a week and then returned it. Finally, I got a copy that worked and then the game wound up being nothing special. Wish I would have known that in the first place. Would have saved me a lot of effort!

Soul Calibur made it all worthwhile though. Still stands as the best fighting game I have ever played period.

I still have that same Dreamcast today and don't plan on letting it go. Ben has eyed it up a few times, but I told him he could buy some other poor unsuspecting Dreamcast to carve up for a portable. Then he would mumble something about difficulties with making it into a portable due to power requirements and he would move on.

So there. That's my loosely connected Dreamcast story in a nutshell.

It was a great system that just came along at the wrong time.

R.I.P. Dreamcast

Well, I bought a Dreamcast a few weeks ago, but I have yet to actually play a game. I need to adjust the laser pot so it can play CD-R's, but I've been to lazy to do so.
