found this place: Odyssey Electronics

I've just requested a quote, will keep you informed with what they say. I'm happy to buy lots if there is enough interest on here for me to move them on. have requested a quote for 20 pieces so we'll see what happens

Thanks very much for those pictures blaze3927, although some pictures from your HQ camera would be fantastic :) I am very intrigued to hear about a 1998 PAL revision, I can only guess it is an NUS-CPU-01-1 revision? I am not sure if pictures or scans would be better, I guess it really depends on the quality of the camera/scanner used?

For a supplier of "RDRAM36-NUS" I just searched on http://www.hkinventory.com
http://www.hkinventory.com/public/Offer ... mit=Search
The chip supplier who gave me the $4.00 quote was called "Thanku (HK) Electronics Limited", they are not on the above supplier list but you will find that most Hong Kong chip suppliers dont actually stock the chips they sell and usually just go around buying them from other chip suppliers when you place an order, so some suppliers have quite a high markup.

You may be able to get an even cheaper quote with a little shopping around, but keep in mind the shipping cost - many sellers only want to use an expensive tracked service like DHL, and also many dont accept PayPal. Also theres always the risk of a scam and its very difficult to know if the supplier is trustworthy, so sometimes you kind of just have to take a risk. Lastly, these chips could be 'factory seconds' that were thrown out by NEC/Nintendo, but I think in this case its more likely that the RDRAM36-NUS chips were just overproduced.

I hope that helps :)

Have requested a quote from the third seller on that hkinventory search you provided. will let you guys know what they say back :D

hopefully it'll be cheap enough to be worth the risk instead of getting the chips out of official expansion paks. I've got a supplier who will sell me official expansion paks for $12USD each including postage. possibly $10 each if I increase the quantity.. assuming he doesn't run out of stock that is

N64 200 board

bit blurry because lighting wasnt great, took some of the 1998 board [which is a nus-cpu (P) -02] bit too blurry to make out, the 1998 board looks very similar, the only difference i spotted was that it has the two resistors going to the av port that the 2000 board is missing

I can get 300 NINTENDO 4mb RDRAM36-NUS chips for $1.65USD/piece plus $30USD shipping. I'll post a message on the trade thread to see how much interest there is :D

Thanks blaze3927 :) I hope I dont sound ungrateful, but if you have a spare moment would you consider trying to scan the motherboard(s)?

I am quite curious about this 1998 board. I have seen an NUS-CPU(P)-02 motherboard but it was dated 1999, so if yours is dated 1998 then that seems very strange!

Thats a great price :D Were you able to check what payment methods they accept? (Some payment types have extra fees) Also, you can enter their email address here:-

To help check that they are not a scammer.

It's still a up over $500USD purchase though lol, getting that many was the only way to get anywhere near that price. they accept Paypal, so I figure if I get screwed over a open a dispute through paypal and get my money back :)

if your interested post in my thread in the N64 section (not in the trade thread)

Watch out with Paypal. If at all possible use a credit card. Cost is slightly higher, but the benefit is that when paypal screws you over, you simply call up your card co. and cancel the charge.

Then paypal has to go get the money back for themselves, and that's when they actually put forward an effort to recoup the money.

that's a good point, with a credit card I can just get a chargeback done, or whatever it's called. I feel paypal is alright for buyers, but I'd never use it if I was running a business. I've read so many horror stories

the company does accept credit cards too, just don't know if giving out my cc number is wise, but I suppose if the company is shady and they steal all my money, the credit card people will just be like *reversed* and it's fixed :D

I was just about to say that I would recommend using a credit card if you can for extra security. When I was enquiring last year a lot of suppliers only accepted Western Union or MoneyGram, which I wasnt very comfortable with as there is no comeback if there's a problem. I would not recommend giving them your credit card details though, much better to use PayPal in this instance to keep your card details private.

Out of curiosity did you try using hkinventory's 'post requirement' feature:-
http://www.hkinventory.com/public/PostRequirement.asp
You get quotes from lots of different suppliers and you might even be able to find a supplier with a smaller minimum order quantity for the same price? (If you try this be sure to use a throwaway email address and made-up telephone number etc, as you will likely get a lot of offers/spam ) Sometimes it is also possible to haggle a bit  especially with a chip like this which was designed for use with a discontinued games console - it cant really be used for much else.

I am definitely interested in buying some, and have posted in your other thread :) (It might be a good idea to mention that this upgrade isn't suitable for people who are inexperienced at soldering?)

Yea, that's exactly what I did, but I didn't realise that's what I was doing lol, that's how I found this great price :D ..I did give my personal email. but apparently they can't see it, they just email to an email hkinventory made up, and then hkinventory tells me that theye messaged me..all of like ten billion of them lol

interest in the chips is rising fast, when it slows down and if we're not near that 300 piece mark, I'll try haggle them down to giving me the same price but for like 200 pieces or something :D

okay i tried scanning but was all blurry, so im gonna desolder the ports and try again

its odd that the 1998 and 2000 baord both have the MAV-nus chip yet 1998 has the extra resistors while 2000 omitted them

makes you wonder how much stuff can be left off of an N64 board with it still working. All the components around the controller ports have already been proven unessential by soldering directly to the IC, Thanks to ShockSlayer (and someone else)
