Xbox 360 joystick on n64p pinout needed

Post by Reubensupernerd » Tue Mar 22, 2011 11:05 pm

Hey guys!
I was playing N64 games on my pc using one of those Xbox 360 controllers for windows, and it occurred to me that the durability of the joysticks was even better (plus less dead zone) than that of the Gamecube sticks. As a result I'd like to do my n64p with a Xbox 360 joystick. If any of you know how to wire the joystick for n64 use (I don't need the LS button) it would be really epic if you could shoot me a pinout.
Thanks,
Reuben

Pinout would most likely be exactly the same of any other Pot based stick.

So I went to best buy and saw that they have the new xbox360 controller (the one with the new dpad) so i picked that up Image
in addition to the controller I cannibalized Image They are a pain to open... OH and the point of this post was to thank blaze3927 because he was 100% right about those xbox control sticks.

Glad you asked :) The screws are star shaped and require a hollow bit....not happening. I went and got every size bit for a bit driving screwdriver and one of those precision screwdriver packages they sell at the pathetic hardware stores we have in NYC. I found the right flat head driver, mashed it wherever it fit in the screw head and turned it. That worked but when the time came to unscrew the ones that are at the very bottom of the controller, for whatever reason that wasn't working (I think they screw those in tighter). So I got a bigger screwdriver and wedged that in, and that worked. Oh and eventually I figured out that there is one more screw hidden from view, its in the battery compartment, right under the sticker I believe...you'll find it if you poke around with the screw driver.

Lolwut.
10x lolwut.

Sorry, I guess after working with 360's for so long you just asume everyone has a T10&T8 security bits.
You can pick up torx security sets for about $5 from either eBay or jaycar.

And if you got those controllers just to take the joysticks, I call shotgun :)

for the screws on the 360 controller I snap off the middle pin of the screw and get a small flathead screwdriver, works great
