Nobble's SNES Portable: The Scarlet SNES

Welcome to my Scarlet worklog! I am building a SNES portable. I got the idea from Life of Brian's 3rd portable. I am using a ZN-40 and a OKW XL with a spacer. For my screen I am using a zenith 5" LED modded. I am using a SNES mini for the system (obviously). For the controls I am using a 3rd party super famicom color controller. I should be updating regularly so keep watching!

3.5" screen? :shock:

That case looks like it can take at least a 5" screen.
Maybe even 7"...

Well the ps1/ zenith screen might fit if I cut the top off. I'll buy it and try that out.

Here's a few pics of my controller ports all cut out.

THINGS TO DO:

1.Buy new soldering iron and desoldering iron.
2.Order zenith screen. DONE!
3.Buy batteries. DONE!
4.Wire up controller, battery, screen, speakers, switches, a/v ports.
5.Relocate cart slot. (not looking forward to this...)
6.Get some sheets of plastic. DONE!
7.Paint
8.Other stuff that I cant think of.

I decided to rewire the capacitors to make some more room in the case. It worked out well, though it took a long time. Everything still works!

Well I have kind of decided that I am not going to add internal controls to this project as I don't have as much room as I thought I would. It's not 100% for sure, but with the zenith screen, the batteries, and the snes mobo there isn't much extra room. I even have to have the cart slot hanging out the back of it all. I will hopefully get my screen sometime this week and my batteries next week. Just wanted to update for you all.

I would recommend putting some heat-shrink tubing or electrical tape around the bottom of the capacitors you re-wired. It keeps the solder joints from flexing and breaking.

Well as I was trying to relocate the cart slot, my soldering iron slipped and broke off two mini resistors :cry:

So now I need to buy another snes board and take the two resistors off of that. What a pain.

BUT good thing is the cart slot is now out and ready to be rewired.

They're just regular SMD resistors, they're in most electronics made since the start of the 90s.

Do you know the values? You can probably hunt down an old modem or graphic/sound card and find equivents.

SMD resistor have a 3-digit code - for example "472". This means 47, the 2 means there are two zeroes after that.

47 + 00 = 4700 ohms, or 4.7kohms

I lost the resistors so i cant find out what value they are. all the board says is R6 and R7
