Low and behold! My newest, and most ambitious projekt to date! ...this time using original hardware
Yes, see it here, a portable Sega CD!
As far as I can tell, this has only been attempted once before....but not like this bad oscar!
The controller...rather than roll with a 'custom' controller area, I'm rolling with some semi original buttons, to make it feel more sega-y (semi original cause I just gutted a clonetroller)
..and a nice wide shot of the initial workings....see anything that might hint at how awesome this projekt is gonna be when it's finished? I'm gonna do my darndest to include a feature that has never before been seen on a portable yet (although, we've seen it done elsewhere...)
...to be continued!

Regardless of the outcome I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. You always take great pictures, and that's what this forum needs more of - actual projects with pictures to document it all. Makes for good reading Sounds like a very good projekt, mein Herr!
By the way, those are some beefy looking capacitors for your audio amp in the background.

Do I see a slot-loading dd in the last picture? BTW I love this project already.

Re: Projekt Numbers.....now underway!
Update!
Had a small hurdle to deal with..namely how I was gonna use the SL drive with the ancient CDX....and then it hit me!
After much destruction...these two were introduced...
..then WHAM! I got them to fit together in such a way that works
With that, I did a quick test to see how it all holds the disk when one is loaded....which works very well! YES!
Stay tuned!

Re: Projekt Numbers.....now underway!
how are you going to get it to recognize when youre trying to insert a disk? or eject it, or tell the system when theres a disc in there?

Re: Projekt Numbers.....now underway!
by using some sneaky switches
and here's a small update!
Got my screen...
You know what the best part about getting a new screen is?
when the screen you've purchased was listed as being totally broken, only to get it, open it, and find that the part that's broken, was a part you were gonna remove anyway
so I landed a perfectly good PS1 screen for 20 bucks shipped
and so the adventure continues...

Re: Projekt Numbers.....now underway!
i would figure out a way to automate it. using just a single eject button and a way to sense when youre inserting a discMetallica Man X wrote:by using some sneaky switches

WERD did a slot loading dreamcast on his Dream Tablet
He made a custom circuit that we discussed when I originally was talking about making a iCast with a slot loading iMac G3.
He hasn't posted much here recently, but I think he has a link to his blog site which has a bit more info on the circuit he used to do the opening/closing/spinning up/down.

Holy burrito launching octopus! That info saves me alotta thinking ...I would've figured it out eventually (by looking at his schematics, I can tell I was already very much on the right track) But this makes things so much easier--woot!

Re: Projekt Numbers.....now underway!
UPDATE FINALLY!
Could've posted this sooner, but I kept forgetting lol.
So yeah, here we go!
Did the classic LED mod on the PS1 screen...
This time around, I had some tooling to assist in the operation...
You can't tell me that doesn't look sexy
Did myself a little tweaking of the CDX board..removing that plug....'twas a real pain to say the least, but at least it works
Couple of Bench test shots....
Seem to have run into a snag tho...I fear the video amp is going bad on the CDX...as the picture is very..um...wobbly...It's hard to describe, but lines seem to travel across the screen, making the screen look all shakey.
Any thoughts?

About the video, it could be some of the capacitors on the board going bad, kind of like sega game gear, and the screen and stuff related stop working. just an idea
