It was a bit expensive. But thats the price you pay for a super-bright blue LED.

I made a few bucks. Plus I pulled a "You owe me" with my dad. Which he did. Hes the one who purchased the case that the mother board previously resided in.

It's also the price you pay for being able to walk into a store and bring it home that day. I've done the same thing.

I'm actually using a blue LED on an N64 I'm modding. It won't be a portable, I'm just adding RCA jacks and some cosmetics to it.

Anyway, it's good to see progress. Keep it up!

Thanks! I'm changing the LED to blue because thats the color scheme: Silver, black and blue.

Even the power supply box follows this. It's one of my top 5 favorite color combos.

I got the transformer so I can run the TV and N64 off one unit. Rather than having two plugs for the system.
Why not just have a 12v wall wart that can provide the required amps that plugs into the laptop? Then have that go to any regulators (such as the 3.3v one) and the 12v lines inside the laptop.
(just wondering, seems like you're trying to do it the hard way)

That LED is outrageously priced. A bit of advice - NEVER buy LEDs at radioshack. I almost bought the same thing, but thought better of it and went to ebay. I got 100 super bright 3.7v 4000 mcd blue LEDs for $5.00. I still have a LOT. I'm not sure if they are 4000mcd or a little less, but they are the brightest LEDs I've ever seen and I got 100 for less than $10.00 shipped. If anyone wants one or two, I'd be happy to send them some, to save them from the evil over priced radioshack LEDs.

 Point made...Geez...

Well, something good did come of it. The RadioShack I went to? The people actually knew what the hell they were talking about! I was pleasantly surprised.

They want to see the HBN64 when its done.

Thats cool. Every time I go to Radioshack they have no idea what their talking about. They just work there. It's nice when the people you're asking have any idea what things even are. If you want a few of these LEDs, I'll send you some. All it will cost you is an address. (I would just put some in an envelope)

I used to buy the assorted packs from radioshack. I think they come with 20 different assorted LEDs(3mm, 5mm, square, different colors) but I never really had anything they were actually FOR. It was just cool to have a bunch of different LEDs. As of now I have 2-3 packages of those, these blue LEDs, and I'm waiting on 100 15000mcd 3mm LEDs (I think) at the moment.

15000mcd? Holy crap! That'd certainly produce some light.

Then you only need one plug, and all the other power regulation is inside.

Not enough amperage in the stock N64 adapter. Besides, this gives me some more freedom for extras.

No no, I mean get like a regular 12v wall adapter (probably 3 or 4 amps), have that plug into the laptop. Then, you have the regulators inside the laptop to make the other voltages. Then you don't have a custom power supply that you have to rebuild if you lose it or forget it when you go on a trip. Power connector would be easier, too.

Ahh, NOW I understand. Sorry, I'm a bit slow today.

Well, I'm doing it this way because... Well, its a learning experience. And I want the satisfaction of making my own power supply.
