i hope to start creating a portable retro duo as well pretty soon (just sold my snes mini the same day i got it after 3 weeks of shipping :D, bought a retro duo instead, damn PAL incompatibility sucks)

loveablechevy, you've inspired me. I originally came to this site just looking for a fix for a broken PSOne LCD I was given, but now after flipping through the forums (especially your WIP posts) I'm really pumped to start a project. The only thing holding me back at the moment is funding (due to a string of events I'm jobless). Anyway, I love what you've been doing and I wish you luck as you continue! Keep up the good work!

i really do need to get both the handyduo and the handygear done. my goal is to have both finished by the end of the year (and maybe even another project or two... Image )

I'm not sure if you said why or not, but how did you settle on the Retro Duo instead of the FC Twin?

better compatibility. the retro duo is the only clone i'm aware of that works with castlevania iii and the unlicensed gauntlet.

i used the retro duo for those reasons in my DCsnes but i decided for future systems im going with the FCtwin due to its smaller, more symmetrical size lol

well, the snes side is smaller, actually. since the fc twin is broken into 3 boards, the snes portion can be smaller. here are some pics for comparison:

i don't have my fc twin handy right now, so i can only give you approximate dimensions of the snes board... but, here are some pics for that.

the case he is using is 6" x 4"

hope that helps clear up the sizes! the retro duo is smaller in comparison to using the entire console, due to there only being 2 boards (if you don't count the tiny controller board). but if using the snes side only, the fc twin is smaller. it just doesn't have as good of compatibility, but the newer fc twins are really close. i think the only 2 games that don't work on it that do work on the retro duo (at least that i've heard) are castlevania iii and the unlicensed gauntlet. there may be a few others, but i'm not sure.

Can you tell me how many volts each half needs, and what the current draw is? And also where to connect the power. I'm trying to add to this thread:
http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?t=25867

Thanks!

(Awesome portable, by the way! It looks awesome!)

It was a very small draw, around 290mAh for the SNES section. As far as I can remember.
