I just drill straight through. Just make sure to drill straight and slowish. If you are melting the plastic then you are going to fast.hailrazer wrote:Do you need a piece of wood or something behind the plastic when you drill (Like you have to do with a spade drill bit) ? Or will it work drilling straight through?Rekarp wrote:Tibia if you are drilling through brittle plastic (Like Atari cases) you can't go wrong with some cheap Forstner bits. Once I moved to these I have never cracked an Atari case.

Tibia, I meant to respond to your question sooner but forgot. My answer is "kinda yes", considering I have drilled exactly three holes with this bit. Once I've gotten a bit more use out of it on future projects I will be able to give a more definitive answer.
On another note, the replacement Flashback is on its way in the mail. I await it with eager anticipation.

Got the new flashback in today and it works perfectly. So, yeah, that first one was defective. I hope to make some good progress on the portable tonight. There really isn't much more to do aside from cutting the circuit board down a bit so that it fits. The only other main hurdles are mounting the joystick and deciding what batteries to use.

hot
A truly wise man can entertain a thought without accepting it. A fool cannot withhold past judgments but instead closes his mine to new possibilities. Someone who wants to innovate simply needs to forget what everyone says isn't possible.

Sorry for the lower than usual image quality but it's just so much easier to snap a pic with my Droid Eris phone and have it upload directly to my Photobucket account. I made some good progress tonight. Time to catch some sleep before a long day tomorrow of tests and work.
...of course now that I look at the pictures on my computer's screen they don't look all that bad so never mind.

Wow! That thing looks seriously late 70's! If that isn't perfect for the system, I dunno what is! All you need is some brushed aluminum on the sides, and you're in business

Oops. I kinda chopped off a bit too much. This is the player one controller jack... chopped off. I mapped where everything goes so it is no big deal, but still...
At least the board fits where I wanted it to go, which was the whole point of trimming the board.

Mounted the cartridge connector today. It's not pretty, but thanks to JB Weld it is rock solid. Plus it will be one of those things that are on the inside that you will never see once the portable is done.
I also installed the power jack. That Unibit I mentioned before made a cool recessed bevel... thing. Whatever you call it, I like how it came out.
