PS360 questions...

Post by rcpitlane » Fri Feb 20, 2009 9:19 pm

I have a DS3 controller and a spare wireless 360 controller. I want to jam the ds3 into the 360 shell but I don't want to do the tact switches. I see that there is some guy on the net who can use the 360 wireless board just for its contacts. I'm having a hard time tracking down exactly what needs to be down. I want to go this route (both boards in there). But I'm at a loss for pinouts. The ds3 controller is easy enough to figure out on my own, but the 360 doesn't look fun to figure out.

I'm also curious if I can just use the 360 anologue sticks? I can see that the ds3 has a two pairs of 4 connectors and the 360 only has to pairs of 3. But is it just another ground?

The ds3 is a CECHZC2U
The 360 is a V15 board?

If by 'some guy' ya mean me, that controller is here.. ;)

It's not much on the details of it, but ya can see a lot of the mess that's involved in making it. The reason for the lack of details, and why I don't plan on making any kind of tutorial on it, is that there are 3 versions of 360 controller ya can use and 4 DS3 ones now, plus ever version board has to be done a certain way, so that's a lot of tutorials to cover all the bases or just one that would leave a lot of people out of the loop.

Ya can't use the 360 sticks, they have to be swapped over to the DS3 ones as they're a completely different type. There are also 4 versions of the DS3 controller now (found another one today) and all of them have the exact same model # on the bottom of the controller but internally they're different, so that number isn't useful at all and ya really should go by the number on the board..

For the 360 controller ya should refer to it as a Matrix or CG, just easier (least for me anyway since that's what I call them) to know which is which..

It's not just figuring out how the 360 controller is laid out, which is already done here in the Controller Modifications section..

..but also reconfiguring it to the 3 Common Line setup the DS3 uses, so traces will need to be cut and rewired along with just about ever component removed from the board (properly, ya don't want torn up traces and pads, ya need those ;) ). The CG version is useless for doing this also, way too much work to isolate the grounds on the buttons, so if ya have that thing wait for a Matrix board.

It's a pretty good challenge, take ya about a week to make it up, though ya could do it in a day, that's if ya know where everything goes and don't care for things like food and yer sanity. ;)
Screwing up is one of the best learning tools, so long as the only thing you're not learning is how to screw up.

So now I have determined that I have a Matrix and a MSU_V3.5X 1.12.

I'm going to send you a PM with some more questions.

Thanks RDC.
