The Flip64

Post by bentendo64 »

ok, i know i havnt done much on it, but now, i think it should take off. :)
i started a new thread cuz the old one was too crouded by arguments for me.
ive got a new i dea for the case:
Image
my n64 board fits inside of it, with almost an inch of space left over.
i want your opinion on this: should i put the game on the back, like almost everyone else does?
Image
Image
or u flip the top open and you put the game in.
Image
if i do the flip top way, it will not have batteries inside, but w/ the other way, i should be able to fit them somwhere........
ive also decided that i am going to get screen #2 on haralizers guide.
and i am not going to get the mini gamecube controller, the one i have should work just fine.
i hope to start ordering parts by the end of this week!

I have started work on this baby once again!
here is a picture of my logo, and my idea of what I thought it would look like 5 months ago
thanks for the name idea!

ok, i decided to go with flip top w/ batteries.
i did a little bit of case work, and you have to put in a jumper/ expasion pak. (saving money right now  )

and the best part is is that my heat sinik actually touches the metal casing, so i dont have to provide air holes. and it will warm my hands up while im playing it in a 0 degree car.
a little rewiring i did to make it fit:
Image
(i dont want to have to do this again, 30 guage wire vs. the n64 cpu is huge!) the wire hanging out is for RGB video, i mine's compatable.

Update: finally got to start working on this thing. (again)
I decided to go with the name Flip 64 I drew a logo and a quick drawing of what i thought it would look like. (back in Feburary, or sometime) no pics right now, camera is charging, but I do have my predicted drawing/ other info about it.

I saw the title of this topic, and went "Aww crap! Someone is using the name for a portable I've designed!". And then I noticed:

 Totally forgot about that.

I had even designed a logo, so PLEASE feel free to use it if you would like! I made the text using a cut-and-paste method from the Nintendo 64 logo:

This looks great so far! :D
But don't you think the controller is uncomfortably far down on the case?

I thought so, too which is why I am using the ''wing'' type things from the N64 controller, so its sort of comfortable, at least.

Limpport: thats too bad about the name thing, have you started building yours yet?

thanks for all of the comments! there isn't very much progress, other than I made the control stick, and cut out a hole for it.
sorry, no pics right now, they won't upload to imageshack, I'll try later
