I thought it would be pretty cool if you could use a PS2 analog stick (third party) on a Superpad 64 controller. That way you could utilize the R3/L3 tact switch, by pushing the joystick in, to control an n64 button (not sure what yet, maybe Z?). I wired it up in the way I thought was correct:
However, when i tested it the joystick worked but there were two problems. First, the x axis was flipped (left=right, right=left) and the joystick was very slow (maybe 1/4 normal sensitivity). I know this probably has something to do with the resistance of the pots on the PS2 joystick. But unfortunately i don't have extensive knowledge on this subject, so i was wondering if anybody could offer me a solution?

To my knowledge, if the resistences differ, you cannot use that stick. I haven't seen a working workaround.
That said, I did this same mod with an original XBox stick, and it works. Plus, that also has a stick button. I wouldn't set it to Z, though - Road Rash 64 uses that for gas!
I have a first party ps2 as well. Any info on how you did it? I don't have any xbox controllers, so that's not an option. Also, what type of superpad was it? This is mine (superpad 64 performance):
Was your controller pinout the same as mine above? ^

My controller looked the same as yours, just a different color. Yes, there are two superpads - the one you show (by performance) and the two-prong by somebody else. The one you used is the good one.
As far as your pinout, you don't have ground connected. I connected the two grounds and ran them to Gnd, then the middle pin of X to VX1, and then the middle pin of Y to VY1. The remaining pin next to X ran to VC1 and the one next to Y to VD1.
It was a third-party XBox controller, but I think that layout is pretty standard.
Yeah I've already got that one down and it was pretty straightfoward. I just wanted to try something different for my portable and incorporate L3/R3 buttons (there are plenty of cool uses for them ). Thats why I am interested in the details of snowpenguin's mod because I don't want to mess it up. Sony PS2 controllers aren't exactly cheap; however, the 3rd party one I got for $1.00 so there was no harm in destroying it. Thanks for any help.

Trust me, the stick on the two handled superpad 64 is not good for portables. The thing is huge, they actually used standard through hole gigantometric potentiometers in there with a plastic casing. You don't want it except for a portable that's big already I promise.
