Working on a ps1p, psone screen issues.

Post by metrolf »

Well, I'm working with a friend and we're working on a ps1p. We are using a ps1, not a psone btw. We tried to connect it to the screen, but sigh, it's not working... We used a bunch of AA batteries to test it, meaning the amperage is quite low, but it should be sufficient. Tested with the multimeter and it read 7,6V and that should be just what we needed. At first it didnt work, then I hooked up my gamecube to the video in and the picture appeared, but the picture just flew around on the screen and it was unstable, so to say.. But then I disconnected the ps1 and used only the screen and gamecube. The picture became stable, but then the screen turned off instantly... What is going on? I soldered to the ribbon cable if it makes any difference..

Also the psone screen is ntsc and the ps1 is pal, but I've heard that it's not supposed to make any difference...

I made a diagram of the setup for your convenience :)

And, yes, I am using the pth 08000 and it works fine

Also, does the ps1 mobo generate a lot of heat? is the metal thing around it needed, or would ram heatsinks do the job?

Thanks in advance :)

You may be able to use an NTSC PSOne screen with a PAL system, but I don't recall if it automatically accepts the PAL input or if you have to do any modding to make it accept it. That might be your main problem. Another source for issues may be your power supply. Do you have access to a wall adapter that can provide a somewhat high current (around 1 Amp) just to make sure it's not your batteries that are the problem?

Edit: Wait a second. What are you using the TI regulator for?

They're using an old PS1 which needs 7.2v and 3.3v. The last model of it had a smaller area PCB than the PsOne.

Ah. I didn't recall that it needed 3.3v.

this has got to be a new record! I finished the psonep in 3 days;) altough there is a problem with the screen... After about 1min the screen starts to display only static:/ Btw, the first ps1 stopped sending out a videosignal so we changed it with a psone board instead, if thats of any help... All is ntsc btw.
