Iboy hybrid

a few months back i crammed my broken ipod ( huge crack in the case) into a friends old gameboy (the buttons seemed to not work. no perfect system was sacrificed!). it looked really cool and coupled with Rockbox's gameboy emulator i was playing gameboy games in crisp color with the same nostalgic feel. The problem was it wasn't my best hard drive . The hard drive was very worn down and should have been replaced and there were a few other cosmetic casualties in forcing everything to fit. so now i'm working on a second build and i'm really taking my time to make it look as factory as i can.

so far i've
filled all original ports
swapped the hard drive for a compact flash adapter giving me a lighter, more stable set up
cut up the ipod's back case to use as a sort of holding tray for the motherboard (again i'm aiming for a clean, light finish that i can open up and fix if need be later on)
cut out the headphone jack and lock switch from the original case to use in the actual cartridge slot. (in my first build i just blacked out the game cartridge slot and it never felt right, plus the lock and headphone jack will fit more snug in their original ports.)

ill post a link to my flickr where you can see my old build and my current work log. please let me know if there's anything i should look into or fix before i continue onward. im looking to have a real daily use system that also looks factory made.

the firmware i'm running on the ipod that lets me use a nintendo looking layout and play nintendo games

and a screen shot of the theme i built. when on an actual ipod the artists name fits on the black bar.

thanks, my only problem is the port for the ipod. it doesn't reach the bottom of the gameboy :( im not sure if there is anyway to extended the cabling for it to reach the bottom? in my first build i rammed a usb cable in there and left it hanging out the back, i'm not sure i want to do this since it'll cut me off from docking and things like that. ill post pics of it all later to give a better idea of my predicament but ANY advice would help me!

just got the compact flash and adapter installed on the gameboy! the case is nearing its final steps so soon ill be on to paint. i plan on final assembly during my spring break. i updated my photo stream so you can see the few updates ive made. instead of using a usb cable I carved a hole in the bottom of the case and bought a ipod to micro usb adapter so it can be charged alongside my phone!

okay so after a long time of neglect ( school ) i've decided to start moving in to the final installments on the case itself. i used J.B. Weld to bond the metal shell of the ipod case to the inside of the gameboy like in the picture below. i cut a hole in the bottom of the gameboy so the adapter i bought can still reach the 30 pin connector of the ipod. the only real concerns i have is if using that kinda of cold weld will hold long term? i also noticed that the bottom of the case opens up a little bit. i figure two screws can hold it together and keep a more "factory" look to it. would something like this work well?

i figure ill install screw posts like these in the bottom of the case by the opening for the dock connector

heres two pics of the metal shell im cold welding to the plastic of the gameboy body. any idea if there is a better form of bonding them?
