****REALLY NEW****
See post 10 for my kitbuilt power supply!

***OLD***
See post 9 for RGB encoder schematic!

Just some random projects of mine. Figured I'd put it all in one thread. More are coming by the way.

Image
This is my radio. I built it from half of a clock radio. Needless to say it's ugly as hell. It also doesn't work very well. I stupidly put the power switch on the bottom and it doesn't work very well because it's plugged with hot glue. The reception sucks because of my crappy antenna. It has headphone out and a switch, but why bother. I'm probably going to rework this into a better one. And yes, yes I will buy a case this time.

I built these LEDs for use on a robot. They were never used for various reasons. But they're cool. But I broke them. I was waving it around and then the blue LEDs fried. No chance that I'll be able to steal any more from the robotics room either. The good news is that the amberish LEDs are still good.

Image
This is a mic shockmount made from a piece of ABS pipe I had around. Why? Because for French I have to make a sorta-cooking video, and last year when I made my Greece video there was a lot of mic noise. Aren't I the overkillist? Anyway I dunno if it'll make any difference but I've been meaning to make one for years now. Still needs a bracket and a clamp.

More, even cooler projects coming soon. Post comments and questions please, or you'll never see my other projects (aren't I mean, locking you in like that).

WTF is the last thing?

Agreed on the ugly as hell, but at least it works. I couldn't ever get my ghetto radio to work with my ghetto amp.

I think we should check to see if you can withstand 220 volts

ok, cool and all that jazz.

se what i mean about needing a "random projects sticky"?
for all the projects that are cool, but dont deserve their own thread. (like these. :? )

It's a shockmount for a microphone. The mic (mine is an Audio-Technica ATR-55 shotgun) is suspended by the rubber bands, which isolates the noise. Or something. Mostly I just need a way to mount the sucker to my tripod without tape.

I figured lumping all my projects into one thread is better than creating a bunch of different ones, but yeah, agreed. And thanks.

Don't expect many more random mods. The robotics club kinda kicked me out. Only the winning team gets to stay in. The rest of us are hung out to dry. But I'm getting some supplies. No more free parts though, so projects will be less random and more purposeful.

Got my stuff in. Unfortunately the vendor screwed up the order slightly. Instead of the 16V 1.1A adaptor I ordered I got a 24V 500mA one. Otherwise, it's all correct. The WP25 iron that I ordered is really nice and it's made in Mexico, not China. The conical tip I ordered is way tiny, which is great! I'll post picture soon... ish.

TRIPLE POST!

Not a physical project per se, but I made Ben's RGB encoder circuit into a proper schematic. A few but not a lot of modifications. Made in ExpressSCH, which is free so you can download it. The file won't upload but I'll find a way to get it to you guys. But for now you'll have to settle for the ummm... bitmap version.

Image

DISCLAIMER: This circuit was made by Ben, not me. It should work, but no guarantees. Also I may have screwed up or omitted something. If someone would check it over for me that would be nice.

I've been making a lot of schematics lately, because for me a diagram is much easier to build from than instructions or a layout.

EDIT: Try this link:

EDIT: I screwed up C2. It should go between GND and +5V. Both Vsync and Dpos should go to 5V.

No comments? Awww :(

Anyway here's my power supply which I built from a kit.
Image
It's based around a 723 IC and a big power transistor. It says it's good for 18V at 1A but it goes up to about 22V. It takes a 14-16VAC input. Initially I got the wrong wall wart (16VAC, an odd one) but that's been sorted out. Building it was a breeze, my Weller WP25 iron cost me $50 plus $7 for an extra-pointy tip but it was worth it. It was really fun to build! Initially it didn't work but that's because I had the current turned down too low (cheap crappy multimeter). I'm going to use it to power various experiments. I do have to build a case (it'll probably turn out like crap) and mount it and stuff.

Coming Soon: RF Modulator (made from Genesis RF unit) and maybe I'll finish the shockmount.
