Famicom alike from individual TTL's

Post by SenDragon » Wed Jan 19, 2011 3:33 pm

My project consists in reshaping the wheel...if you know what i mean. I want to build from individual 7400 series - smd (sourface mounted devices) or related TTL famillies one console that can run famicom or nintendo nes casettes .I have some issues with understanding zero page adressing at the moment because i learned assembly on good old z80 at the university.
So here i go:
-step 1 : making ALU alike the 6502 or 2a03
-step2: building graphic processor
- step 3:fixing compatibility and implementing 32kb system sram and 32kb video sram
- step 4: creating the I/O and expanding the conexions with some max232 help and others
- step 5: building a faithfull power supply and RF modulator for tv
- step 6: (this is above me for now...)making video out from console compatible with one laptop lcd i own.
If someone want to help me with diagrams or models for step 1 i'll be very happy.
Post1: i have future plans of creating from scratch one Local Position System. PM me if interessed.

The only thing I have to say is good luck! :mrgreen: There was someone that reverse engineered part of the NES and stuck it on a FPGA at my school for a senior project a few years back, I'll try to dig it up.

EDIT: Here it is. http://cegt201.bradley.edu/projgrad/proj2006/fpganes/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Wow, that's gonna be one heck of a project! I'm sure the board will end up looking something like some of the early arcade boards with loads of IC's, but an SMD version. Definitely looking forward to seeing this!

Should try to make an NES out of relays, like this:
http://web.cecs.pdx.edu/~harry/Relay/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Can you imagine how insane that would be? :lol:
Coming Soon: Kibble's L'Ectroshop (parts and stuff FS)
