FS : Sega Nomad Modding Service -- Screen and Battery

Post by hailrazer » Sat Feb 06, 2010 10:05 pm

I am now offering my Nomad modding services to the public (this means you).

I can modify the Nomad with a new , much better looking screen.
The price is $65. With a replacement screen cover also the price is $70.
The Nomad needs to be shipped to me. I replace the screen with the new one and Priority ship it back to you. It usually takes less than a week for you to receive it once I get the Nomad.

I can modify the Nomad with a Lithium Ion battery pack for $70
It uses a AAA battery pack container made for the Nomad. I install a 2200mAh Lithium Ion battery inside with a new charging jack. You then will receive the New battery pack and home charger and car charger. I do not need your Nomad for this mod. You will receive it within a week as long as I have parts in stock.

Below is a simplified example of the mods I do.

PM me if you are interested.

Thanks :)

References for mods I have done:

Screen Mod :
Racketboy member jbltecnicspro.
I got everything, and I'm very happy. Nice work! You can't tell the mod was done! :D
DigitalPress member megasdkirby
The difference is definitely noticeable! Much more color, I can see details I never saw before, great viewing angle. Simply fantastic!
Thanks so much on such a fantastic mod! It's superior in every way to that old stock LCD, it's incredible! And now my broken Nomad has life again!
Screen and Battery Mod :
DigitalPress member Oldskool
Well I just got it today, looks awesome! I cannot believe the difference! I can actually play Sonic and see what the hell is going on. Thanks man! Thanks Jonjandran this thing looks AWESOME!! I expected it to be nice but DAMN. You can actually read the text in Phantasy Star IV, and the fast action in Sonic is no match for this screen! I recommend to ANYone with a Nomad to get this done.
Digitalpress member MetalFRO.
I had a chance to test it as well - thanks so much, I can't believe how clear that new screen is, and no residual blur!
The Retro League Host and BenHeck member nickerous:
Amazing difference in quality! The new screen makes it much easier to play the Nomad. Can't reccomend it enough. The battery mod allows the Nomad to be used as a true portable system. Who has the money for regular batteries to feed the unmodded Nomad? This solves that problem and allows me to cut the cord in regards to the wall adapter. Thanks again, Hailrazer!

SCREEN MOD

This is what your Nomad looks like on the inside:

Here is the new Lcd we will be using :

When we take it apart it will look like this :

Here's what it looks like installed:

Plug it in and see the new Lcd in all it's glory.

Here's a pic of what the old screen looked like :

BATTERY MOD

This is the re-chargeable battery pack for the Nomad. I also use the 6-AAA battery pack depending on what i can find to buy.

Image

The battery I will be using is a Sony np-f550 2000 mA battery.

Here's what it looks like installed.

And here is the charging jack installed:

And here's the charging adapter you will receive :

One advantage of this is that it will last around 4 1/2 hours with a stock Nomad. With a Nomad that ha a new screen like mine in it , it will last around 8 1/2 hours.

Plus it is a LOT lighter than with the stock Nomad battery pack.

Hey could you do a screen replacement on a game gear? What about putting a rechargeable battery in it as well?

Can't do a Gamegear it doesn't output composite without a complicated circuit.

Hi, I am wondering does the Nomad use RGB? Is it possible to do the mod with this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5-TFT-LCD-MODUL ... 2c510dd7e2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And wire needed pins to nomad mobo...

No idea if that would work, but I doubt it. And I would not want to tackle a 54 pin soldering job for the miniscule gain RGB would have on a 3.5" screen.

That screen takes 24bit digital RGB. The Nomad may actually use digital RGB also (possible) but even if it did, you'd have a hell of a time getting the screen going (sending setup instructions, fast ADC on c-sync to get V and Hsync for the LCD)

The Nomad does output 15Khz analog RGB though. On a screen that small the difference is pretty much unnoticeable.

Hi, a little question:

With your mod is it still possible to link the nomad to the TV with the megadrive2 cable?

Sorry, I'm total noob to electronic and mods...
Thanks for the answer,
And great job on the nomad..!

I would like the screen mod as well as the battery mod. I would also like the new screen cover for the extra $5. How and where do I send the system. Thanks a lot for your help.
