Re: VGA output via fpga
Wow that looks fantastic marshallh! :D I have a few questions if you dont mind:- - Is the PCB designed to fit in in a standard N64 case, and if so where? - Would component YPbPr output be possible as well as RGBHV? - Any chance it can support PAL 50Hz games? (Unlikely I know) - Do you plan to sell t...

Re: Cart emulator progress thread
No. Flash RAM is not FRAM. Google is your friend... Already tried google :wtf: Flash memory has more than one type, for instance NAND or NOR:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_memory" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Simply saying its 'FlashRAM' tells me nothing about the specific ty...

Re: Cart emulator progress thread
Great to hear you have FlashRAM working marshallh :D (btw, is N64 'FlashRAM' actually Flash memory? (NAND/NOR) Or is it actually FRAM/FeRAM?) Do you plan to manufacture 64drive's for years to come? Or is it likely to be a limited run product? I only ask as I imagine it will get quite tiresome popula...

Re: VGA output via fpga
Sorry to bump this thread, but I am quite excited by this project and just wondered if there had been any more progress? I have just been thinking about the possibilities, like could this also support Component Video output? Or maybe even HDMI output, to keep the signal digital all the way from the ...

Re: VGA output via fpga
Hmm, i'm a little confused - I thought VGA was capable of supporting 640x480 at 60 frames per second? (480p60) So for 480i output if you take the 60 interlaced fields and then double the lines in each field you should get 60 complete frames? (I guess you would have to move the finished frames up or ...

Re: VGA output via fpga
So i'm guessing it might be hard/impossible to convert PAL video modes into VGA? (Due to them being 50Hz) For 480i output I thought doubling each field into one complete frame might give a clearer output and prevent 'fingering' when there is motion between fields?:- http://lurkertech.com/lg/fields/#...

Re: VGA output via fpga
The n64 only outputs 240p and 480i. Horizontal resolution can be anything. There's some interference in interlaced mode so I need to double buffer everything in SDRAM to get any further. And that's a real mess, so it probably won't happen for a while. Really? I thought that PAL N64 games set the vi...

Re: Cart emulator progress thread
...Unless of course some elite hacker decides to look into Banjo-Tooie's security :?: I gave a certain guy a 64drive and that is no longer a problem ;) Thats brilliant news! :D I really hope they are successful (Unless its already done?!) ...Now we just need a multi-region N64 CIC clone using an AV...

Re: VGA output via fpga
This is fantastic marshallh! When its finished would you consider selling completed PCB's?
Also, I assume that at the moment it linedoubles 240p games to give 480p? So I just wondered if you also plan to support 480i, 288p and 576i modes? (I think those are the N64's main video output modes?)

Re: Cart emulator progress thread
It says that the ever drive requires a CIC chip from a cart. Can someone tell me what a CIC chip is? See the the back side of the cart? It is the bottom left chip with 8x8 pins and it says NINTENDO on it and CIC-NUS-6102. Marshalls does not require this. At least I think... All N64 'flas...

Re: Cart emulator progress thread
*EDIT* Searched Marshall's thread posts and he did not mention anything about the schematic builder (EG: EAGLE) he used... I think it was mentioned in the 'old' cart emulator thread, so you wont find it now. According to the first post in this thread:- "All the old stuff is put away for the time be...

Re: Nintendo 64 Motherboard Revisions/Serials Info Request
My PAL n64 serial number is nup14597615 . Is it mean that it is first revision? Yes, its more than likely an NUS-CPU(P)-01 revision (The majority of PAL N64's use the first revision motherboard, so its pretty common) If you decide to open it up please let me know for sure which revision it is so I ...

Re: Cart emulator progress thread
Out of curiosity, why did you decide to use two 256Mb SDRAM chips, instead of one 512Mb SDRAM chip? I think it was that 2x256Mb SDRAM is cheaper to get over 1x512Mb SDRAM. Hmm, but is the price difference that great? Using one SDRAM chip would help save board space... ...and whoa I think I just not...

Wow, you managed to combine the sub-board with the Altera MAX II onto the main PCB!
